University guidance documents

The University has a range of guidance documents for specific situations:

Developing and reviewing University policies, practices and procedures

Equality Impact Assessment Form. The Equality Act 2010 places on public bodies a general duty to have due regard to the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations. It also requires us to understand the effect of our policies and practices on different equality groups. To do this involves looking at available data, engaging with people, staff, service users and others.

This form, updated to include the protected characteristics in the Equality Act, will help to provide evidence that you have had due regard in developing / reviewing the policy.

Learning and teaching

Anglia Ruskin's Inclusive Learning and Teaching website was launched in November 2008. Developed by Anglia Learning and Teaching as part of our Equality-Proofing the Curriculum project, it is now managed on our VLE by Student Services and includes lots of advice and guidance on how to make your teaching as inclusive and accessible as possible. There are also links to external sources of advice and support.

Planning and organising events

The Accessibility Checklist will help organisers of seminars, symposia, conferences, and other events to make them accessible to everyone who could benefit. Working through checklist will help you anticipate and make provision for access issues from the start, in order to meet the needs of delegates, presenters and facilitators, and everyone else involved.

Managing staff

Our flexible Working guidelines entitled Balancing Work and Life: a Flexible Approach to Organising Work can be found here. At Anglia Ruskin the right to request flexible working extends to all staff, not just parents and other carers. In 2004, our flexible working scheme received the Opportunity Now Award for the Education Sector.
