The UK Engagement Survey (UKES)

What is it?

The UKES is an undergraduate survey that asks you to tell us about how you're engaging with your course, your views on and experience of the services we offer, and how we can help you reach your full potential. It takes around 15 minutes to complete.

Why does it matter?

UKES helps us to better understand your experience in the key areas of:

  • Critical thinking
  • Learning with others
  • Interacting with staff
  • Reflecting and connecting
  • Course challenge
  • Engagement with research
  • Staff-student partnership
  • Skills development (hard and soft skills)
  • How you spend your time

It's your chance to tell us about how you engage with the learning on your course, your work with others, and how you take part in the kinds of activities that help you learn. It's a chance to reflect on how you currently study and what might help your studies. The results will help us make changes that will improve what we do in the future and to keep doing the things that are valuable to you.

You'll be doing your bit for charity too as we'll donate 2 for every completed survey to three local charities, voted for by you via our Students' Union:

How do I access the survey?

Go to and enter your Student ID number or short username or tap the "Complete your survey" tile on the ARU app.

What happens to the results?

Your feedback is important to us. We'll be able to compare your experience against similar students at other institutions to see if we're supporting your learning as we should. We'll use the findings to improve our courses and the learning experience for you and our future students.

Who can participate?

Undergraduate students, who are not eligible to complete the National Student Survey (NSS) 2018, will be invited to participate in the UKES in February 2018.
Eligible students will be sent a link to their student email account asking them to complete the UKES survey.
If youre not eligible to complete either the NSS or the UKES, you can still give your feedback via Tell Us.

When is it?

The survey will open on Monday 5th February 2018.
