Participate in the Learning Gain programme and get a head start

If you are a first or second year undergraduate student you will have received an email invitation to participate in the national Learning Gain project.

Why take part?

The project will help you to understand how your engagement with your course and university life contributes to the development of essential employability skills, content knowledge and your overall personal development.

Whats involved?

Complete a set of 12 online problem-solving questions followed by some questions about your approach to learning by 5pm Tuesday 31 October 2017.

By completing the questions you will:

  • Have the option to be entered into a free prize draw with a chance to win 500 or one of five 100 prizes.
  • Receive immediate feedback summarising your responses to the questions including details of correct answers to the problem-solving questions and reasons why.
  • Gain good experience of the type of questions that employers sometimes use as part of their graduate recruitment processes.

You will have an opportunity to complete a similar set of questions at the same time next year to see how your response changes over time.

How long will it take me?

It shouldnt take you more than 45 minutes to complete the questions.

You can discuss your results with your Personal Tutor, Study Skills Plus Coach and faculty Employability Advisers. They can advise you how to make the most of the wide range of academic and social opportunities that ARU offers to help you reach your potential.

ARU KeepCups


After all your hard work and following the discussion of your learning gain results with your Personal Tutor you'll receive a voucher entitling you to an ARU 'original' KeepCup (retail price 6).

You can use the ARU KeepCup at any of our main campus catering outlets in Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough to obtain a 15 pence discount on all hot beverages you buy during your time at ARU.

Who's running the project?

The project is being run by HEFCE - the Higher Education Funding Council for England – an organisation which supports students by working with English universities to develop excellent teaching and research.

Terms and conditions - FREE ARU KeepCup – retail price 6

  1. To be eligible for a free ARU 'original' KeepCup – retail price £6, you must discuss your Learning Gain results with your Personal Tutor following which you can obtain a KeepCup voucher from your faculty office.
  2. KeepCup vouchers are non-transferable.
  3. Anglia Ruskin University has the right to refuse to issue a free KeepCup voucher or withdraw a voucher from anyone who abuses or attempts to abuse this initiative.
  4. Students may pay an additional £2 to purchase the 'brew' KeepCup – retail price £8.
  5. There are no cash alternatives to the vouchers.
  6. Anglia Ruskin University reserves the right to withdraw this offer at any time.
