The Student Engagement Dashboard

Information for Students

The Student Engagement Dashboard is a way of measuring how you’re involved with University life, using your attendance, Canvas, library activity and other information. It has been developed in partnership with University academics, students and your Students’ Union.

It will help you to make choices about your engagement, and to make the most of the many resources available to help you succeed. Talk to your Personal Tutor about what’s going well and what you might want to improve.

The Dashboard is a work in progress, updated as we find better ways to reflect your engagement. Please use our feedback form at the bottom of this page to suggest any improvements you would like us to make.

How can I access the Student Engagement Dashboard?

Download the Anglia Ruskin App to access the Student Engagement Dashboard. You can also visit the website at

It is also possible to access your Student Engagement Dashboard via the University Apps menu in Canvas.

This is what your fellow students have to say

Please note that the data in the Student Engagement Dashboard does not contribute towards your assessment results for your modules.

  • The data shown is a reflection of your engagement from the academic year so far
  • The Dashboard updates daily and the dials show an average to date
  • Weekly levels of engagement are shown in the line graphs
  • Engagement is only measured during teaching weeks
  • Teaching weeks are defined by the requirement for attendance. Therefore, you will only have engagement data for the weeks in which there is an attendance requirement. For distance learning students, teaching weeks are defined in accordance with the academic calendar for each individual course.

Engagement Indicator

Your Engagement indicator is a summary of your attendance, Canvas and library activity. For distance learning students, it’s a summary of Canvas and library activity.

Attending all your timetabled sessions and course related activities has a major impact on your academic success.

For each separate timetabled class or session, make sure you register your attendance by tapping your Student ID card against one of the “Register Here” devices in the room.

Your activity on Canvas over the course of a week is translated into hits and posts. This is then used to work out your level of engagement.

Your library engagement covers 3 different areas – accessing e-resources, borrowing books and tapping in to enter the library.
