Downloading the latest version of Office to a personal device (laptop or PC)

We recommend that users leave at least 30 minutes from completing the steps under Accessing Microsoft Office Web Apps to then downloading a version on to your personal device. This is to ensure a smooth download process to your personal device.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING EXPIRY:

Access to your downloaded version of Office will expire as soon as you cease to become a student. At this point, any documents saved on your student account will also become inaccessible. You will not be able to renew a subscription with your student account as you will not have access to your student email account so you must be sure to download all of your documents prior to finishing your course.

Further to the above, downloading a copy of the latest version of Office via our Office 365 educate licence will render all previously licenced Office applications installed on your personal device unavailable until such time as you cease to become a student and your account expires. You should be able to resume using your previously installed versions of Office providing that your licence is still valid.

You will need to have completed the steps under Accessing Online Web Applications before installing to a personal device.

  1. Click on the Cog icon in the top right corner. When you see the Settings menu click the Office 365 link under the Your app settings header.
  2. From the menu on the left, select Install status. If you have already installed Office on a different device, it will show here. That doesn't mean you need to uninstall. Click on Install desktop applications to go to the installer screen.
  3. Here you can see the list of applications to be installed. If you are using a 64-bit device, click on the Advanced link to change the version. When you are ready, click Install.
  4. The software installer will begin downloading. Follow the installation steps as shown below.
  5. http://web.anglia.ac.uk/it/software/office365/4---Follow-the-steps.png

Office is now installed on your machine. You will need to set up your applications the first time you use them.

  8. Find your newly installed version of Word on your machine and open it.
  9. You will need to read the Microsoft Office License Agreement. Click Accept to continue.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Please click the boxes to reveal more information.

How do I access my student email?

You can access your student email via the links available on My.Anglia homepage. You will need to login using your Anglia Ruskin Full Username and Password. (abc123@student.anglia.ac.uk)

How am I eligible for a student Office 365 account?

Anglia Ruskin has a site wide licence for Office 365. Our current provision is for Office 365 email only. This means that as a student with a Student Username you are eligible.

How long can I use this for?

Your Office 365 student account will expire as soon as you cease to be a student. At this point, any documents saved on your student account will also become inaccessible. You will not be able to renew a subscription with your student account as you will not have access to your student email account so you must be sure to download all of your documents prior to finishing your course.

I already have an Office 365 subscription. Can I still get the benefits of a student Office 365 account?

Absolutely, but you should keep in mind that if you already have an Office 365 account and have been saving your documents in your OneDrive, these documents will not be available in your student Office 365 account. To access these documents after setting up your new student account, you will need to switch accounts in Microsoft Office.

As soon as your personal license for Office 365 expires you will not be able to access these documents at all until you renew your subscription. You may not want to pay for a subscription whilst you have your student Office 365 account, so we advise you to download all of your documents from your current OneDrive before proceeding.

Do I need an Office 365 account to access Office at home?

No, you do not need an Office 365 account to access Office applications at home. The full Microsoft Office 2013 package is available anywhere with an internet connection through the Remote Desktop and as long as you are a student of Anglia Ruskin you have access to this automatically. It is entirely optional whether you choose to download the full Microsoft Office applications for your device, but if you do then you will need to sign into these using your student Office 365 account that comes as part of your student email.
