Student Email device configuration instructions

Expand the relevant device menu below and hover over bold text for screenshots.

iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Choose the option Mail, contacts & calendars
  3. In the Accounts section choose Add Account
  4. Choose the Microsoft Exchange option
  5. Complete the following fields:
    • Email - your Anglia Ruskin Student Email address. This is in the form firstname.lastname@student.anglia.ac.uk e.g. fred.bloggs@student.anglia.ac.uk
    • Password - your standard Anglia Ruskin password
    • Description - this can be anything you like but we suggest Student Email
  6. Click Next. iOS will attempt to Verify your account information but will fail. Don't worry! This is expected
  7. On the next screen enter the following information:
    • Server - m.outlook.com
    • Domain - leave blank
    • Username - This is your Full Username. You are already familiar with the first part of your Full Username; you use this to log into Anglia Ruskin desktops, the VLE and other services. For cloud-based services such as your Student Email you need to add institution details, e.g. xyz123@student.anglia.ac.uk
  8. Click Next. Now select which items you wish to synchronise with your Student Email account
  9. Click Save

Windows Phone 8

  1. Scroll down to the settings option from the main apps list
  2. Select email + accounts
  3. Select add an account
  4. Select Outlook (Outlook.com, Exchange, Office 365) then enter the following details:
    • Email address - your Anglia Ruskin Student Email address. This is in the form firstname.lastname@student.anglia.ac.uk e.g. fred.bloggs@student.anglia.ac.uk
    • Password - your standard Anglia Ruskin password
  5. Click Sign in. You will get an error when your phone is unable to automatically find your settings. Don't worry, this is expected
  6. Enter the following details on the next page:
    • Username - enter your Full Username. You are already familiar with the first part of your Full Username; you use this to log into Anglia Ruskin desktops, the VLE and other services. For cloud-based services such as your Student Email you need to add institution details, e.g. xyz123@student.anglia.ac.uk
    • Domain - leave blank
  7. Select Sign in. The screen will go dark as your phone validates these settings
  8. You will be returned to the account setup screen. Note your new account, shown here as Anglia 2
  9. You can now edit this account to:
    • give it a more descriptive name
    • choose when to download new data
    • and choose which elements to synchronise to your phone
  10. Click on the tick to save your changes
  11. You will now see a new email Tile at the bottom your home screen - not to be confused with any other email accoutns you may already have configured on your device

Windows Phone 7.5 - 7.8

  1. On Start, flick left to the App list
  2. Scroll down and tap the Settings icon
  3. Scroll down and tap email + accounts
  4. Tap add an account
  5. Tap Outlook
  6. Enter your Email address - your Anglia Ruskin Student Email address. This is in the form firstname.lastname@student.anglia.ac.uk e.g. fred.bloggs@student.anglia.ac.uk
  7. Enter your Password - your standard Anglia Ruskin password
  8. Select Sign in
  9. This will fail and you'll be asked to check your information and try again. Don't worry, this is expected
  10. Change your username to your Full Username. You are already familiar with the first part of your Full Username; you use this to log into Anglia Ruskin desktops, the VLE and other services
  11. For cloud-based services such as your Student Email you need to add institution details, e.g. xyz123@student.anglia.ac.uk
  12. Enter the Domain: m.outlook.com
  13. Choose Sign in again
  14. You will now see a new email Tile at the bottom your home screen - not to be confused with any other email accoutns you may already have configured on your device

Android - HTC

  1. Go to Menu > Settings
  2. Select Accounts and sync
  3. Select Add + from the top menu bar
  4. Choose Exchange ActiveSync
  5. Choose Manual Setup
  6. Complete the following fields
  7. Enter your Anglia Ruskin Student Email address - e.g. fred.bloggs@student.anglia.ac.uk
  8. Server Address - m.outlook.com
  9. Domain - Leave blank
  10. Username - enter your Full Username. You are already familiar with the first part of your Full Username; you use this to log into Anglia Ruskin desktops, the VLE and other services. For cloud-based services such as your Student Email you need to add institution details, e.g. xyz123@student.anglia.ac.uk
  11. Password - your standard Anglia Ruskin password
  12. Make sure SSL encryption is turned on.
  13. Select Next
  14. Select the data you wish to Synchronise from the server
  15. Select Next
  16. Select Finish Setup

Android - non-HTC

  1. Go to Settings and select it
  2. Scroll down to the Accounts section; select Add account
  3. From the pop-up, select Email
  4. Enter your Anglia Ruskin Student Email address - e.g. fred.bloggs@student.anglia.ac.uk
  5. Enter your password - Your University account password and hit Next
  6. From the next screen, select Exchange
  7. Domain\Username - enter your Full Username. You are already familiar with the first part of your Full Username; you use this to log into Anglia Ruskin desktops, the VLE and other services. For cloud-based services such as your Student Email you need to add institution details, e.g. xyz123@student.anglia.ac.uk
  8. Password - your standard Anglia Ruskin password
  9. Server - m.outlook.com
  10. Make sure SSL encryption is turned on.
  11. Scroll down, select Next
  12. You may be prompted with a message about Remote security information - select OK. Adding your Office 365 Student Email account to your Android phone enables advanced features such as access to your camera, sending notifications to your lock screen and access to your notification area. If you do not accept this you will be unable to continue.
  13. Choose your account settings - select Next
  14. Your account is now set up - select Next to finish
  15. You can select your new account from the Android email client next time you run it.

BlackBerry 10

  1. Go to Settings by swiping down from the top of the screen or selectiong the Settings icon
  2. Click on Accounts
  3. Select Email, Calendar and Contacts
  4. Enter your Anglia Ruskin Student Email address. This is in the form firstname.lastname@student.anglia.ac.uk e.g. fred.bloggs@student.anglia.ac.uk
  5. Click Next. You will see a progress indicator
  6. Enter your standard Anglia Ruskin password
  7. You will see a message informing you that your BlackBerry was unable to find your connection information. Don't worry, this is expected. Click OK
  8. Click on the Advanced button at the bottom of the screen. If your keyboard is visible this button will be hidden, so close the keyboard by clicking anywhere on the screen that isn't a text input box
  9. Click on Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
  10. Enter the following information:
    • Description - can be anything you like by we recommend Student Email
    • Domain - leave blank
    • Username - enter your Full Username. You are already familiar with the first part of your Full Username; you use this to log into Anglia Ruskin desktops, the VLE and other services. For cloud-based services such as your Student Email you need to add institution details, e.g. xyz123@student.anglia.ac.uk
    • Server Address - enter m.outlook.com
    • Leave all the other settings at their default values
  11. Click Next. You will get a progress indicator
  12. Select which services you wish to synchronise with your phone
  13. Click Done. You will see a progress indicator. This has been known to fail on the first few attempts. If you receive an error check your settings and try again
  14. When successful you will be returned to the Accounts settings screen with your Student Email account configured
