Our University Filestore provides secure storage for students and staff to save documents.
The H: drive (StaffHome) is your personal home drive. It’s where you store data that is pertinent only to you. Typically this is only a very small amount of data. For example, your supervision and appraisal papers would be stored here. Data stored on the H:drive cannot be accessed and viewed by others. Your H-drive is 4GB.
The J: drive (StaffData) is your Faculty / Support Service shared drive. Data stored here is accessible to staff in your Faculty or Support Service and should not be used for personal items. For example, you can store course notes, tutorials, meeting agendas and minutes or presentations here.
The J: drive has significantly greater capacity than individual’s home drives and allows colleagues to securely access shared resources. Permissions can be configured for sub-folders of the J: drive to block access to certain areas except for a subset of users for sensitive information, for example departmental financial information, or we can enforce read-only permissions to certain areas to stop resources becoming inadvertently changed or deleted. Any requests such as these should be passed to Customer Support in the first instance.
The J:drive also allows others to access your documents if you are ill or leave the University.
The O:drive (Shared) is used by our Faculties to enable staff to share documents with students. Data saved here is accessible to other staff and students, and should not be used for personal or sensitive information.
You should regularly remove items from our Filestore that are no longer needed to ensure that there is sufficient storage for our growing University.
