Walking

Walking can be one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into your daily routine and can double up as a form of transport!

That means it saves you money, gets you fit and contributes to a cleaner environment.

The NHS recommends walking 10,000 steps a day (about five miles) can give you a healthy heart and reduce body fat.

Walking is recommended for those who live within 2 miles of the campus, which will take on average 30 minutes, burn 100 calories and save 0.5Kg of CO2. Walking can also be combined with public transport.

Walking tips

  • Wear a comfortable pair of shoes when walking for over 10–15 minutes
  • Stay aware of your surroundings by keeping the volume down on your music player
  • Stick to well lit paths in the darker months, you’ll be able to see where you’re going and be seen by cars and cyclists

Facilities on campus

  • Personal safety alarms are available to students from the SU and for staff from Risk Management.
  • Showers are available for staff and students at the gyms in Chelmsford and Cambridge
