Train travel

Travelling by train is better for the environment than driving, but can also benefit you in lots of other ways. You wont need to worry about parking and traffic, you can read, work or rest and its a chance to fit in walking into your day. If you work or study at ARU you may be able to get cheaper tickets too.

Abellio Greater Anglia (Staff and Students)

Flexi ticket Buy 20 standard day tickets with 10% off Use within 3 months Call 0345 6007245 and choose option 3
Monthly ticket Buy a monthly ticket with 10% off Call 0345 6007245 and choose option 3
Quarterly ticket Buy a ticket valid for 3 months with 10% off Call 0345 6007245 and choose option 3
Annual ticket Buy an annual ticket with 15% off Call 0345 6007245 and choose option 3

Discount applies from any Abellio Greater Anglia Station to Chelmsford or Cambridge. Ring the business travel team on the number above and let them know you are an ARU staff/student. (Tickets can only be purchased over the phone).

Great Northern and Greater Anglia (staff only)

As members of 'Travel for Cambridgeshire' scheme ARU employees are entitled to discounts on season tickets with Great Northern and Greater Anglia.

Season Ticket (From 1 calendar month up to 1 year, including odd period season tickets e.g. 3 months and 10 days) 10% discount

Tickets can be purchased online, by telephone or from the Cambridge or Ely ticket office. Please read our guide for details. If you are purchasing from the ticket office please complete this form.

Railcards

18+ Oyster photo card 30% on an adult Travelcards and Bus & Tram passes with an 18+ Oyster photo card if you live in London and on full time course www.tfl.gov.uk

Staff can apply for an interest free travel loan from HR for help with purchasing season tickets, please see the HR website for more details.

Chelmsford


Chelmsford Train Station is just a 9 minute walk from the campus or you can hop on a Chelmer Valley Park and Ride bus for 50p which stops on campus.  We also have plenty of cycle parking on campus if you wish to bring your bike.

Cambridge


Cambridge train station is a 20 minute walk from campus and we have plenty of cycle parking if you bring a bike.

Peterborough


Peterborough train station is a 25 minute walk from campus and we have plenty of cycle parking if you bring a bike. Brompton bikes are available to hire from £2.50 per day and are located just outside the train station.

The bus station is only a 5 minute walk to the train station where you can catch the number 1 bus which stops opposite Guild House (Woodston).
