Hugh's War on Waste - Coffee cups

On "Hugh’s War on Waste" program (BBC1, 9pm, 28th of July, 2016), the broadcaster and environmental campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall highlighted the waste associated with disposable coffee cups. Each year the UK uses 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups and not only do they have to be made from virgin materials but they also cannot be recycled.. Read more

Green Move Out raises £11984 for British Heart Foundation

Bug Hotel

Success at travel awards

ARU soars up the World Universities Green League Table

Anglia Ruskin has jumped 67 places in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking from 118th place in 2013 to 51st place in 2014 leapfrogging Keele and Newcastle universities. The ranking primarily compares the campus sustainability efforts of universities as well as the extent to which sustainability is embedded in teaching and research. Read more

50,000 Honey bees at our Cambridge campus

This summer we installed a beehive on the green roof of LAB in Cambridge. The bees will be a great addition and help us increase biodiversity on campus as well as supporting the bee cause: British bee numbers have fallen dramatically in recent years, affected by disease, chemicals and habitat loss. Last year was particularly bad with honey harvests down over 70%. Read more

10,000 new wriggly arrivals at our Chelmsford campus

We have been trialling an environmentally friendly alternative to sending our food waste to landfill in the form of a wormery. The process is known as vermicomposting and is a completely organic way to turn food waste into a soil improver that we can use on our flower beds. Read more

Green roof attracting new wildlife!

With the development of the new Lord Ashcroft Building in Cambridge we put in a green roof to try and attract more wildlife to campus. We keep a wildlife sightings log on our website and ask staff and students to send in any unusual sightings to us so we can keep track of what‘s been visiting the campus. Read more
